Like watchmaking, gastronomy demands extreme precision and excellence. Both Haute Horlogerie and Haute Cuisine aim to evoke emotions through their craft. Unsurprisingly, many of the world’s best chefs have become ambassadors for some of the most prestigious watch brands. Hublot counts Yannick Alléno, Anne-Sophie Pic, Clare Smyth, and Andreas Caminada among its ambassadors. Caminada, awarded 19 Gault & Millau points in 2009 and 3 Michelin stars in 2011, practices his culinary art at Schauenstein Castle in the village of Fürstenau, Switzerland. The Swiss chef has partnered with Hublot since 2017. Today, this partnership reaches a new level with a special collaboration celebrating his 20 years at the castle – the Big Bang Unico All Black Schloss Schauenstein.
As its name suggests, the celebratory Big Bang comes in an all-black design featuring a 42mm micro-blasted ceramic case. The bezel is crafted from ceramic too. Together with the satin-finished and micro-blasted black-plated titanium pushers, it adds depth to the overall design. The matte black openworked dial showcases the Andreas Caminada logo on the small seconds register while offering a glimpse into its intricate chronograph movement.
The watch is powered by the automatic HUB1280 Unico 2 calibre. Launched in 2018, the 1280 is a slimmer, updated iteration of the original 2010 Unico calibre, measuring 30mm x 6.75mm. This in-house chronograph showcases its column wheel and date disc on the dial side. The calendar disc is also visible through the openworked dial, displaying the date within the 60-minute chronograph register at 3 o’clock. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations/hour and has a power reserve of 72 hours. The other side of the movement is visible via the exhibition caseback, whose sapphire crystal is emblazoned with the outline of the castle as well as the caption “20 JAHRE SCHLOSS SCHAUENSTEIN.”
The Big Bang Unico All Black Schloss Schauenstein comes on a rubber strap with vertical stripes secured by a ceramic/titanium folding buckle. The practical one-click interchangeability allows you to change your strap in seconds with no tools. It is released in a limited edition of just 20 pieces. Each piece is delivered in a special box with a booklet signed by Andrea Caminada, a custom-engraved knife, and a knife block. The price is set at CHF 25,900 or EUR 29,600.
Additionally, a one-of-a-kind timepiece based on the same design but featuring the Uccellin Foundation (a foundation in the field of gastronomy awarding scholarships to young chefs and service employees) logo will be auctioned for charity during the AC Masters event on 11 June 2024.
